2011 Surfcast Wales Club Championship Results 27th March

Well first of all I would like to thank our sponsors for the prizes that were donated to us Sakuma for the night crystal line and car air fresheners. Dave at smartrig.co.uk for the Viz line. And a big thanks to Keens of Aberkenfig for sponsoring and supporting the club over the last few years and hopefully many years to come. Keens are always on hand and give many prizes throughout the year to the club for raffles and competitions cheers guys can't thank you enough.

Anyway onto the competition weather was cracking and even the sun came out from about 11 and shone all day. Well they do say the sun shines on the righteous. Wind was E to NE about 10 mph. Everyone was booked in and had a few practice rounds before the 10 o clock kick off. Battle commenced throughout the 3 groups where the leader board changed places a few times over the three rounds of casting with the championship being decided by 54cm and was one by Adam Neil just piping Nigel Davies the reigning champion and Adam Morgan in third who also produced the best cast of the day The two other groups were closely contested with group 2 being won by Brian Sillman followed by
Matt Russell and Andi Yates third. Commiserations must go to Will Irving who was in the running all the way up to the last round but sadly had two crack offs and failed to find enough distance with his third cast and put him out of the running.Group 3 was also closely fought with Ian Coyne improving on his second place in the last championship to take first place. Followed by our junior star Garwyn Shortman who took second by 67cm over one ofour most senior casters Brian King.

After the championships were over we resumed with our normal monthly competition where a few casters were then a bit more relaxed hit a few meters more than when the competition was on with a few PB's to boot. Well done to M. Russell 216 on the 100g L.Griffiths 143.37 on the 150g and new members S.Thomas 155 on the 150g and back after a lay of a few years C.Jones with a 208.70 on the 150g. And last but not least a big well done to our junior caster Garwyn Shortman with a cracking PB on the 100g with a cast of 193.50m, smashing the junior club record again This is now being forwarded as a new Junior Welsh record well done Garwyn keep it up you will soon be beating your Dad. Results below are for the championship and the normal monthly competition below that Hope all enjoyed as much as I did putting it all together. And a big thank you to Brian King for helping with the measuring and recording. Andi for keeping track of the crack offs, and course the prizes donated by our sponsors that put a smile on everyone's face, and finally a big thanks to Direct Source ofTaffs Well for supplying the wonderful trophies for the championship
